As a Virginia Beach family portraits photographer, I often get asked where my favorite place for a session is and the answer is always the same – the beach. I am born and raised here and have always loved the beach but honestly as I get older, I appreciate it even more. I work with so many families who are visiting and are SO excited to be able to experience it, and it’s the perfect reminder not to take it for granted and of course, to take ALL the photos there.

Thinking about beach photos for your Virginia Beach family portraits and not sure if they are the right fit for you?
Sharing some reasons to book the beach photos below:
The scenery is perfect.
I shoot almost all of my beach sessions at one of two places: 86th street at the North End or Back Bay (for those clients who live in or are visiting Sandbridge). Both options provide beautiful scenery without tons of people around and are ideal as a backdrop for family photos. The beach also provides a lot of variety with both the dunes and the water – I typically start my session with more of the posed photos at the dunes and finish with more candid shots at the water. This works especially well for kids who usually are more willing to pose at the beginning of the session and then want to really move (and I want them to be able to!) after that.

You can make a memory and have it documented.
The beach is the perfect place to have your Virginia Beach family portraits done because you can make memories with your family! The experience that my families have while taking the photos is just as important to me as the photos, and I love that at the beach – you can have fun while taking the photos! There is so much open space to use and to really allow your family to adventure and have fun. As your photographer, I will provide you with different prompts (and sometimes even games!) which I hope will make for a special memory and especially love that then, you will then have these moments documented forever.

Check photos off the to-do list.
Scheduling your Virginia Beach family portraits session now in the spring or summer keeps you ahead of the game for those Christmas card photos! This way you won’t be scrambling during the fall/Christmas time when your to-do list is miles long and you also won’t have to worry as much about getting scheduled on those crazy fall calendars for photographers. A Virginia Beach spring or summer session also usually provides you with more desirable, consistent warm weather, which also means that you can be a little more creative with wardrobe since you won’t have to worry about anyone being cold!

You can include the pup.
Lots of my families ask if they can include their furry friend in photos and the answer is always yes, as long as the location will allow it! The beach is ideal for pets with lots of open space for them to have fun and be in on the memories also. I just always suggest that (if you can!) bring a friend to help with the pet when you are doing the photos without him or her in them.

Lastly, as your Virginia Beach family portraits photographer, no matter what location you choose – I just always encourage you to book the photos! Documenting whatever season of life you are in is something you will never regret and will always be worth it. In every photo session, I aim to capture your family in a way that I hope you will treasure forever.
